The agentic economy, for someone who runs a site
An agent requests a URL. If the origin answers 200, it reads for free. HTTP 402, x402, and Cloudflare Pay-per-Crawl are how the origin charges a micro amount per request. ChargeReady measures whether this origin can collect. It is not a marketplace. Agents do not pay each other on our platform.
What HTTP 402 means
402 Payment Required is a reserved HTTP status. For crawler charging it is used with crawler-price (USD) and PAYMENT-REQUIRED. The agent sees the price before a pricing page. RFC 9110 keeps 402 reserved; practical use comes from Pay-per-Crawl and x402.
crawler-price, and why search is different
crawler-price declares the amount per request. Search and answer bots (Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot, Applebot) must be able to cite you: under this policy they get 200. 402 is for non-search agents, on a content route, not the whole site.
15 September 2026
That day Cloudflare’s defaults for AI crawl change. It is an external, verifiable date. It is the only scarcity ChargeReady uses. There is no other countdown.
Charging is 35% of the score
Commerce Readiness is 35% of ChargeReady. Cloudflare Agent Readiness leaves charging out of the number. Without 402, crawler-price, or Pay-per-Crawl, the level does not reach ready to charge.
Public specs
We cite only public specs: HTTP 402, Cloudflare Pay-per-Crawl, and x402. This page has no in-house market volume and no Imperva figure.
Measure whether your origin can charge
Paste the URL. The score says whether agents can pay you. Then read how to turn on Pay-per-Crawl or 402, and open the demo on this origin.
